Horns

By Joe Hill

Ignatius Perrish spent the night drunk and doing terrible things. He woke up the next morning with a pair of horns growing from his temples. At first, Ig thought the horns were a hallucination, the product of a mind damaged by rage and grief. He had spent the last year in a lonely, private purgatory, following the death of his beloved, Merrin Williams. A mental breakdown would have been the most natural thing in the world. But there was nothing natural about the horns, which were all too real.

Researching Genealogy in Digital Libraries from Home

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Online
This program is online only, please register to receive the Zoom login information.
The COVID-19 Pandemic caused many libraries, archives and research facilities to shut their doors to genealogists, and some have yet to resume normal hours.  Researchers have turned to computers to pursue family history online.  Kathy Petlewski, librarian and NGS Magazine columnist, will introduce attendees to several lesser-known free digital libraries containing local history and genealogy information, including HathiTrust Digital Library, the Digital Public Library of America, and FamilySearch Digital Library.  During this virtual presentation, learn how to structure searches and then filter and limit hits for the best results using these products.  This program is aimed at family history researchers who are comfortable searching online and are eager to explore new resources!
This program has been funded by Friends of the Library.

Rhapsody: Huron Ridge Bluegrass Group

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Online
This event has been pre-recorded and will be available on our YouTube Channel here beginning 2/14/2021.
NO REGISTRATION NECESSARY.
Formed in Milan, MI in the spring of 2019 at a bluegrass jam session. Willie Carter (guitar, vocals) and Chris Dawson (mandolin, vocals) created a musical partnership to focus on writing and promoting original songs and music. This venture quickly turned into a full band by adding Chip Cope (banjo, dobro, vocals) and Hampton Cope (bass, vocals) both from Northern Ohio. The name Huron Ridge was adopted to emphasize the influence of mountain and traditional Appalachian music as well as the origin of the band in the Southeast Michigan area. Huron Ridge has been featured at local bluegrass festivals, music venues as well as the World Wide Bluegrass Radio Show.
This program has been generously funded by the Friends of the Library.

Pigs

By Johanna Stoberock

Four children live on an island that serves as the repository for all the world's garbage. Trash arrives, the children sort it, and then they feed it to a herd of insatiable pigs: a perfect system. But when a barrel washes ashore with a boy inside, the children must decide whether he is more of the world's detritus, meant to be fed to the pigs, or whether he is one of them. Written in exquisite prose, Pigs asks questions about community, environmental responsibility, and the possibility of innocence.
